Ms. Peery provides individual counseling and couples counseling to adults of all ages.
As an individual therapist, Ms. Peery specializes in working with those who have experienced complex trauma and loss/grief. She also focuses on anxiety disorders, attachment issues, life transitions, and work confidence.
Additionally, Ms. Peery enjoys working with clients of color and different cultures.
As a couples therapist, Ms. Peery is trained in the Gottman Method of couples counseling. The Gottman Method is a highly effective evidence-based approach developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman.
Part of the Gottman Method’s popularity comes from its short-term and structured approach, and its focus on using specific strategies and interventions.
Ms. Peery works with heterosexual couples, gay and lesbian couples, and queer couples.
As a trauma therapist, Ms. Peery uses an eclectic approach. She incorporates EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), as well as elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), internal family systems (IFS), mindfulness and somatic experiencing.
EMDR is a specialized form of psychotherapy that’s been scientifically proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences. This includes PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), anxiety, depression and panic disorders.
Prior to joining DC Talk Therapy, Ms. Peery worked for Vesta, Inc., a community mental health clinic in Silver Spring, Md. At Vesta, she worked as a psychotherapist and clinical supervisor.
Ms. Peery has a master’s degree in social work from the University of Maryland and a bachelor’s degree from Howard University. She is licensed to practice in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
Ms. Peery provides daytime and evening appointments. She offers teletherapy sessions on Zoom or Doxy. Additionally, she provides in-person therapy.
