About Shelby Allen

Ms. Shelby Allen provides individual counseling for college students and those in their 20s and 30s. She specializes in anxiety, grief and loss, and dating and relationships.

She prioritizes the therapeutic relationship while using two main therapeutic approaches — cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT).

Ms. Allen offers in-person sessions, as well as teletherapy. She offers daytime and evening appointments. She is licensed to practice in Washington, D.C, and Maryland. (Ms. Allen is a pre-licensed therapist, working under the supervision of David Sternberg, LICSW.)

A native New Yorker, Ms. Allen has a bachelor’s degree from Chapman University (CA) and a master’s degree in social work from Catholic University.

Prior to joining DC Talk Therapy, Ms. Allen worked at another group practice in Washington, D.C, where she provided individual counseling and group therapy. She has also worked at the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing.
