About Supriya Durgam

Ms. Durgam provides individual counseling to young adults (20s and 30s) with anxiety, depression and trauma.

She also enjoys working with clients from multicultural backgrounds. Born in New Delhi, India, Ms. Durgam can conduct her sessions in Hindi or English.

Ms. Durgam draws on a variety of therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed therapy and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

CBT is a heavily researched and popular form of psychotherapy that links our thoughts to our feelings and behaviors. It has been found to be particularly helpful in the treatment of anxiety and depression.

Trauma-informed therapy is an intervention and organizational approach that focuses on how trauma may affect an individual’s life and his or her response to behavioral health services from prevention through treatment.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on the psychological roots of emotional suffering. Its hallmarks are self-reflection and self-examination. Equally important is the use of the relationship between therapist and client, as it often provides a window into problematic relationship patterns in the client’s life.

Ms. Durgam is licensed to practice in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. She provides teletherapy and in-person therapy.

Having grown up in Montgomery County, Md., Ms. Durgam attended the University of Maryland for her undergraduate degree in psychology. Later, she received her masters degree in social work from Columbia University in New York. More recently, she completed training in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT).

Prior to joining DC Talk Therapy, Ms. Durgam worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., and in a group practice in Northern Virginia.
