About Sophie Bauer
Sophie Bauer is a licensed clinical social worker providing individual counseling to young adults (20s and 30s). She helps clients with OCD, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship problems and stress related to life transitions.
Ms. Bauer is in the process of becoming a certified OCD specialist.
In addition to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Ms. Bauer uses relational therapies and mindfulness.
CBT is a heavily researched and popular form of psychotherapy that links our thoughts to our feelings and behaviors. If we’re able to challenge our distorted or irrational thoughts, and replace them with more rational ones, we may be able to change our resulting feelings and behaviors.
CBT has been found to be particularly helpful in the treatment of anxiety and depression.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a type of mindful psychotherapy that helps you stay focused on the present moment and accept thoughts and feelings without judgment.
A native Washingtonian, Ms. Bauer has a master’s degree in clinical social work from Catholic University. She has a bachelors degree from Kenyon College (Ohio).
Prior to joining DC Talk Therapy, Ms. Bauer worked as a school counselor at a private girls school in Washington, D.C.
