About Patricia Barros

Dr. Barros is an expert in couples counseling/marriage counseling. She incorporates elements of different couples counseling approaches, including EFT (emotionally focused therapy) and the Gottman Method, which emphasizes ways to better manage conflict. She is certified in PREPARE/ENRICH and provides premarital counseling.
Dr. Barros also sees individuals struggling with anxiety and depression and is particularly interested in life transitions, such as divorce. As a native of Brazil, Dr. Barros also enjoys working with persons of color and those with different cultural backgrounds.
In addition to her work at DC Talk Therapy, Dr. Barros is also an Assistant Clinical Professor in Family Science and the Director of the Center for Healthy Families at the University of Maryland-College Park. She is also an AAMFT (American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy) Approved Supervisor.
Dr. Barros earned a master’s degree in Psychology, as well as a Master’s and a Doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, all from Kansas State University. She was a postdoctoral clinical fellow at George Washington University.
